Within this series of lessons, students examine the hierarchical structures and economy of medieval society in Europe, circa 1100 CE., including the impact of hierarchies on the economic well-being of individuals
and their families. This inquiry process further develops students’ understanding of “continuity and change” as elements of historical thinking, with a focus on both individual and community “needs and wants”,
as well as the economic relationships between individuals in the medieval community.
